Letter from the Secretary General

Dear faculty advisors, staff members, and fellow delegates,

My name is Tamara Samamé, and I have the privilege of serving as the Secretary-General of the third edition of Salcantay Model United Nations (SLCMUN). Writing this still feels a bit unreal, especially when I think back to how I first got into MUN.

At the beginning, my only goal was to travel with my friends. I didn’t know what a resolution was, or why everyone kept raising their placards. I felt completely lost. But somewhere in that chaos, something clicked. In the rush of everything happening at once, I realized I was learning (really learning) something new.

Since then, MUN has become a huge part of my life. What I’ve come to love most isn’t just the debate; it’s everything in between: the moments when things don’t go as planned, when nerves show up, when disagreements force us to listen. The late nights. The inside jokes. The quiet wins no one sees. And now, having the honor to serve as Secretary-General of SLCMUN, I see even more clearly how much effort, heart, and teamwork it takes to create a space like this.

At its heart, SLCMUN is about our shared commitment to building fairness and equity in a world that’s always changing. It’s a reminder of what brought us here in the first place, and of how important it is to keep our values in sight, especially when things get tricky.

My honest hope is that through this conference, every delegate finds the courage to speak up, connect, and discover something new. I hope SLCMUN becomes a memory you carry with you, and a reminder of everything you are capable of. I can't wait to see it all come to life and to watch you enjoy what so many people have worked on with such care. And delegates: if at any point you feel lost, overwhelmed, or just want to say hi, please come talk to me. I’ll be happy to listen and to help.

I’m truly excited for what’s ahead, and even more excited for the people I get to share it with. Whether this is your first MUN or one of many, I hope this conference gives you something meaningful.

With all my heart,

Tamara Samamé
